Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite :
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Course contents :
Field theory course with an emphasis on quantum electrodynamics.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The course has a double purpose: on the one hand, to give a practical knowledge of field theory, so that students can calculate the amplitudes for simple processes; on the other hand, to link field theory with particle and astroparticle physics.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Quantum mechanics, relativistic quantum mechanics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
20h of lectures + 10 h of discussion sessions.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
The course will have of 1h30, and will be given after the courses on relativistic quantum mechanics.
Recommended or required readings :
Textbook : M.E. Peskin et D.V. Schroeder, An Introduction to Quantum Field Theory (Addison-Wesley : 1995).
Assessment methods and criteria :
Written exam, followed by a few oral questions.
