Study Programmes 2015-2016
SBIM0481-2
Molecular and cellular oncology
Duration :
15h Th, 35h SEM
Number of credits :
Master in biomedicine (120 ECTS)6
Master in biomedicine (120 ECTS)6
Lecturer :
Yvette Habraken, Agnès Noël
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite :
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Course contents :
The lecture focus on the state-of the art experimental cancerology. It describes DNA repair pathways perturbated and leading to cancer transformation. It also explains the different steps of neoplastic progression with a particular emphasis on the importance of the tumor microenvironment. The key signaling pathways dysregulated in cancer cells will be detailled. The main drugs currently used in clinic will be mentionned.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The main objectif is to help the student to develop the capacity to integrate previously acquired knowledge with the up to date scientific literature, in order to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the steps of cancer progression. After 5 lectures, seminars aim at developing critical analyses of reported data and to identify the limits and interests of experimental models and approaches. The purpose is also to learn working in a small team to answer to a specific scientific question.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Molecular Biology (BAC2) Principal of cellular regulation (BAC3)
Complement of cellular regulation (M1)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
5 ex cathedra lectures and seminars in which scientific articles are analysed in a group.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
face-to-face
Recommended or required readings :
Recent scientific papers
Assessment methods and criteria :
Oral exam
