Course contents :
The course concerns the endocrine and metabolic systems, and nutrition and diet. The lectures on biochemistry and physiology of the endocrine system encompass the following chapters:
  • Introduction
  • Mechanisms of action of hormones
  • The hormones of the energetic metabolism
    • Energetic metabolism
    • Insulin and diabetes
    • Glucagon
    • Epinephrine
    • Glucocorticoids
    • Thyroid hormones
  • Gastro-intestinal hormones
  • Water, electrolytes, and mineral elements
  • Growth
  • Reproduction
  • Cytokines
  • Mediators
Learning outcomes of the course :
The objective of the course is to master the principles of biochemistry and physiology of the endocrine system, and the metabolism of the human body. Furthermore, the student will have understood the importance of feedbacks and interactions between the different parts of the endocrine system and with the nervous system.
