Course contents :

Each profession defines its own deontological rules. When a student is introduced to a more theoretical vocation, he or she is led to analyze in a critical manner the texts that frame the journalist's profession, in particular, and the sphere of the media in general. Then, during a sequence intended to be of practical value, the student will be confronted with problematic case studies (keeping sources secret, conscience clause, plagiarism, right to respond, legal problems...). In order to enrich the discussion, many cases will be debated with professionals from the sector under discussion (journalists, professional association of journalists, lawyers, judges, experts in the deontology of the media...)

Learning outcomes of the course :

- To understand. To perfect one's knowledge of the deontology of information.
- To gain mastery. To apply in one's work the cardinal rules of one whose job it is to inform.
- To adapt. Depending on complex circumstances, to choose an adequate behaviour from a deontological point of view.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills :

- Frequent reader of newspapers and consumer of audiovisual media
- A high level of skill in major journalistic genres, such as is taught in the course, Techniques du journalisme (3rd Bac).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

There will be two papers to write.
