Course contents :
This course considers the history of philosophy through its methods. Each session will be devoted to a different author or school. It will be driven by a specialist who will explain the method or "device" conceived by to make possible his own conception of philosophy.
Each session is threefold:
  • Reading of a paper (±45 minutes)
  • Collective trial of the exposed device (±1hour)
  • Production of alternatives in small groups (±1hour)
 Each session will by the occasion for writing a handout around the device in experiment.
Learning outcomes of the course :
With its restricted overview of the history of philosophy, this course offers an original view. It will provide participants with a set of tools that can be reproduced in their context of work.

No prerequisite.

This seminar takes place a Wednesday a month, 6-9pm, room A2/6/11 (place Cockerill). It gathers several speakers. Its programme is the following:

  • 03/02/16 : Marc-Antoine Gavray (ULg) : « Platon et la méthode hypothétique »
  • 02/03/16 : Arnaud Dewalque (ULg) : « La méthode phénoménologique »

Recommended or required readings :
Readings will be suggested to participants at the end of each talk.
Assessment methods and criteria :
At the end of the session, four participants will be asked to write a teacher's handout, based on what the working groups will produce during the third part. This paper will then be delivered to every participants and will serve as a basis for evaluation.
