Study Programmes 2015-2016
MECA0067-1
Special Technology Issues
Duration :
30h Th, 30h Pr
Number of credits :
Master in mechanical engineering (120 ECTS)5
Lecturer :
Jean-François Debongnie
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite :
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Course contents :
This course is dedicated to analycal models of forming processes. Contents :

Elementary applications of plasticity in bending processes. Plastic flow theory. Plane strain problems : plane forging, rolling. Plane stress problems : drawing. Extremum principles : discontinuous velocity fields, shortest path theory. Spatial problems : wire drawing, extrusion, cup extrusion. Kinematical method of concentrated shear. Strain hardening effects.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The objective of these lessons is to give some methods for an elementary analysis of forming processes. These methods are, of cours of less potential than the numerical models, but they are often useful in a preliminary analysis where the essential parameters have to be identified.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Prerequisites : General mechanics, manufacturing principles, general principles of continuum mechanics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Oral course. As exercises, numerical applications of the theory.
At the exam, a student is required to be able to solve problems of the same type as in the course.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
face-to-face course.
Recommended or required readings :
Book "Questions spéciales de technologie", ISBN 2-9600313-1-8. It is a fair reproduction of the oral course.
Assessment methods and criteria :
Open book oral exam. What is required is a fair understanding.
Work placement(s) :
Organizational remarks :
The course is given during the first quadrimester.
