Course contents :
Presentation of and lectures on foundational texts in Spanish literature, from the Renaissance to the 20th century. Commentary and critical analysis of required texts, placing them in relation to their historical and social context.
Learning outcomes of the course :
To develop a critical and attentive reading that will allow students to understand and ideally to participate in the philological and critical discussion concerning masterpieces of Spanish literature. Introduction to certain concepts from narratology and social criticism.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Prior completion of the course in the History of Spanish Literature is highly recommended. In order to understand certain reading, questions, explanations and references students should possess at the end of the term at least an intermediate understanding of Spanish language (B1).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Writing of several essays with regard to the compulsory reading.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
This course meets for four hours per week during an entire semester, and about half the meetings will be devoted to working on exercises.
Course is given in French and Spanish.

Assessment methods and criteria :
Reading exercises in French and Spanish, and a written exam.
