Course contents :
This course, which is aimed to introduce students to dialectal variation, is divided in two main parts: - lectures explaining main concepts (dialectology and its object); introduction to Belgoroman dialects (Walloon, Picardy dialect, Lorraine and Champagne dialects); presentation of the dialectology methodology (transcription, linguistic survey and data analyses); - personal work done by each student: he/she will have to introduce one of the "spots" of the survey and show what is interresting about it.
This personal work is subject to final evaluation.
Learning outcomes of the course :
At the end, student will have understood what is the dialectal variation (one of the aspect of the linguistic variation) and will show his abilities to apprehend it.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
None, though the knowledge of a dialect is welcome.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Course is followed by few students which allows dialogue and exercises.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Ten lessons during the first half of the year (each lesson lasts 2 hours)
