Course contents :
Part : Latin palaeography
Survey of the history and the typology of the Latin writing, from the Antiquity to the 15th century, based upon Roman documents and literary manuscripts.
Part : Greek palaeography
Survey of the history of the ancient Greek alphabet, early books (with a short introduction to codicology) and libraries. Typology of the ancient Greek writing, with reference to the cultural impact of writing in the ancient Greek civilization.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Part : Latin palaeography
In the end of the course, the students will be able to identify, date and decipher the writing of ancient documents (papyri, writing tablets, graffiti) and of literary manuscripts.

To be able to decipher the writing of Greek literary manuscripts
