Course contents :
The course is entitled "Level D English for students in Psychology and Speech Therapy [Partim 2]" and includes the following:
- spontaneous writing activities (note taking and paraphrasing);
- listening comprehension activities based on authentic audio and video recordings;
- developing a better understanding of the characteristics of academic writing;
- academic writings (summary of notes taken and critical review of a research paper)
- studying grammatical nuances in written speech for a more profound understanding of texts and successful production of text.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Perfecting the four language skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking, in the domain of psychology. By the end of the course the students are expected to be able to:
. understand extended speech, even when links are only implied and not signalled explicitly;
. understand long and complex literary and factual texts and specialized articles;
. use written language flexibly and effectively;
. formulate ideas and opinions with precision;
. present clear, detailed descriptions of complex subjects, developing particular points and rounding off with a conclusion;
. express themselves in clear, well-structured texts, expressing points of view at some length.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
The level of the course corresponds to the European level C1. Thus, students will need to have a comprehensive knowledge of the vocabulary and grammar studied in the previous years of their degree (from Remédiation to Level C) or a suitable equivalent.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
This course uses a dynamic and interactive approach to learning English for specific purposes and is targeted directly at students studying for a Master's degree in Psychology and Speech Therapy.
The methods and activities used will involve:
. specific work on academic writing skills (paraphrasing, note taking, summarizing and critically reviewing);
. the transmission of grammar and vocabulary through   language practice and adapted exercises;
. using correct grammar and speciliazed vocabulary in  writing;
. listening activites based on authentic sources.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Three 2h modules given in groups of about 30 students, through the second semester of the academic year.
2 written works to be done at home (see the coursebook introduction for details).

Compulsory reading:  Level D English [Partim 2] Coursebook (available module by module on the eCampus of the class). Theory and exercises on the 3 modules.

Assessment methods and criteria :
1. Summary of notes taken - 3/20
Notes taken in class on an unsimplified video file.
2. Critical Review- 3/20
Critical review of a research paper.
3. Written Exam - 14/20
Note taking on and sumarizing an unsimplified video file.
