Course contents :
The course has a B1 CEFR level. It is essentially a grammar course.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The purpose of the course is to consolidate and extend the student's command of basic English grammar.

Theoretical explanations will systematically be followed by exercises.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
A compulsory placement test is held in the first week of the year. Repeaters are not exempted from the placement test, which will enable us to


  • Select the students (with a mark of at least 10 out of 20) who will be exempted from the course and therefore from the January exam if so they wish. Their September grade will then be carried over in January and taken into account as their final grade.
  • The other students will have to take the in-class course, which is taught for two hours each week.

Coursebook : Basic English Course for First-year Students available from Point de Vue (Sart Tilman campus).
The students can also buy the ISLV Grammaire de Base de l'Anglais (with exercises and key) written in French. It will also be found at Point de Vue.
