Course contents :
This course aims at developing communication skills both in everyday and business contexts.
CEFRL levels of the course : Listening C1 Reading C1 Speaking C1 Lecturing C1 Writing C1

Course contents: explanation and discussion of recent articles/audio or video documents on socio-economic, financial, (inter-)cultural or political topics.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Strengthening communication practice in everyday Dutch.
Mastery of business Dutch in situations requiring oral communication (listening comprehension; speaking) and written communication (reading comprehension, writing letters and documents) - The student will be able to understand broadcasts and newspapers articles and to communicate with native speakers on specific subjects of the social and economic life. - He will also be able to express his opinion about contemporary topics and to develop arguments.


He will therefore largely attain level B2 of the KLO.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
B2 level of the CEFRL Mastery of everyday Dutch and good knowledge of more specific vocabulary.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
  • oral exercises: debates, presentations, roleplays, conversation clubs.
  • writing exercises: writing reports, letters or a CV, summary of lectures, texts with arguments.
  • listening comprehension exercises.
  • exercises aiming at developing the acquisition of "technical" vocabulary.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
The course is mainly organized as a seminar (there are about 25 students in a group) implying the active participation of students. Students will be asked to prepare (in advance) the exercises and documents on which the course is based.

Student work is shared out as following: 3 credit course (3 times 30 h = 90h): class attendance: 20 to 24 h reading, preparation of the exercises and studying: 66 to 70 h

Assessment methods and criteria :
Written exam (1/4 of the global mark) Listening comprehension test (1/4 of the global mark) Oral exams (1/2 of the global mark): this part includes the participation in the class, the oral exercises during the semester and the oral presentation at the end of the semester.
If the student is absent or does not present one of those different tests, he obtains 0/20 as a global mark.
