Course contents :
- Organisation:


  • 2 hours every 2 weeks
- Study of the:


  • basic grammar of the Dutch language
  • basic vocabulary of the Dutch language (+/- 1000 most frequent words)
 
- 10 sections consisting of:


  • listening and reading exercises
  • lexical and grammatical exercises
  • several written works
Learning outcomes of the course :
  • Being able to use Dutch as an everyday language as well as the basic structures of the Dutch language.
  • Focus on the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, writing expression and, to a lesser extent, oral expression.
  • Being able to use the communicative functions relative to the themes of study and everyday life (greeting and introducing oneself, talking about one's schedule, one's hobbies, making appointments, ordering a meal...)
  • Level to be reached: A1 of the CEFRL

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Each course consists of a combination of: - reading exercises (homework)
- listening exercises
- vocabulary exercises based on the vocabulary from the reading exercises and the listening exercises
- grammar exercises based on structures coming from the reading exercises and/or the listening exercises
- speaking exercises (conversations, roleplays...) around the themes discussed in the reading exercises
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Classes based on:
  • the textbook 'Nieuwe Start 1, néerlandais professionnel, niveau de base ; éd. De Boeck' (listening, grammar and vocabulary exercises in relation to one's professional life)
  • a syllabus presenting 10 files around 10 themes in relation to one's everyday life (reading, grammar and vocabulary exercises)
  • grammar reviews
  • a 'Basiswoordenschat' syllabus

Assessment methods and criteria :
1) Exam in January (45%) on the first 5 lessons of 'Nieuwe start 1' and the first 5 files of the syllabus 'Dossiers thématiques', consisting of:
a) grammar and vocabulary exercises
b) a reading exercise
c) a listening exercise
d) a written expression

2) Exam in June (45%) on the last 5 lessons of 'Nieuwe Start 1' and the last 5 files of the syllabus 'Dossiers thématiques', consisting of:
a) grammar and vocabulary exercises
b) a reading exercise
c) a listening exercise
d) a written expression
  3) continuous assessment (10%) consisting of:
two written expressions, one on a theme discussed the first semester and one on a theme discussed during the second semester
