The first semester will be devoted :
  • in part to the commentary on documents relating to the conquests of Alexander the Great and to the formation of the first Hellenistic kingdoms;
  • in part to the commentary on documents relating to the first Roman emperors (julio-claudian dynasty).
The second semester will be spent:
  • in part on a thorough training to documentary (historical sources) and bibliographic (modern works) research;
  • in part on the monitoring of the individual elaboration of the dissertation of end of cycle (TFC).

  • Skills deepening in searching ancient documents and modern bibliography.
  • Acquisition of skills necessary to the commentary of historical documents (critical analysis and synthesis).
  • Acquisition of essential knowledge on the reigns of Alexander the Great, the Diadochi and the first Roman emperors (julio-claudian dynasty).

- chapter 4 [from page 338] and chapter 5 of Claude Orrieux and Pauline Schmitt Pantel, Histoire grecque, Paris, Presses universitaires de France, coll. Premier cycle, 2002 (4ème édition) [reading of an earlier edition of the same book will also be appropriate] ;
- chapters 1, 2 and 3 of Pierre Cosme, Les Empereurs romains, Paris, Presses universitaires de France, coll. Licence, 2011.
Assessment methods and criteria :

January exam session: written commentary on historical documents relating to the reigns of Alexander the Great, of the Diadochi and of the Roman emperors of the julio-Claudian dynasty: 20% of the final mark. June exam session: oral defence of the dissertation of end of cycle (TFC), which should have been handed in no later than May 15, 2016: 80% of the final mark.
Oral defence is required for the validation of the seminar and will allow to adjust the note of the dissertation.
