Course contents :
This course aims to develop the four linguistic skills, namely:
  • oral expression
  • written expression
  • aural comprehension
  • reading comprehension
The course also aims to introduce students to the culture and contemporary Hispanic history.
Learning outcomes of the course :
  • To be able to reproduce an orally coherent and syntactically correct text
  • To be able of producing a narrative or argumentative text which is grammatically correct
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
To have a basic understanding of both written and oral forms of the language and to know the grammatical foundations of the language.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
  • The method used is both active requiring students' constant participation, practising comprehension (reading, listening) and expression (written and oral)
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Two and a half hours of classes a week throughout the year. One and a half hours with Eudoxie Voidanidis and one hour with Yolanda Lorente Carrillo.

Assessment methods and criteria :
First session:
20 % : continuous assessment, including the exam in January which does not exempt students from other exams
80 %: June assessment: written and oral exam
  • 40 % : oral exam: for one half of it, based on set novels, students will be asked questions about the contents of the text. For the other half, students will be tested on the introduction to the culture and contemporary Hispanic history part.
  • 40 % : written exam: write an elaborate, coherent and structured text (narrative or argumentative), a reading and listening comprehension.
Second session:
  • 50 % : oral exam: for one half of it, based on set novels, students will be asked questions about the contents of the text. For the other half, students will be tested on the introduction to the culture and contemporary Hispanic history part.
  • 50 % : written exam: write an elaborate, coherent and structured text (narrative or argumentative), a reading and listening comprehension.
