Course contents :
This courses is the 'functional analysis annex' that must accompany a technnical internship or a Ms thesis realized with a company (unless if the case of an observation internship has been done).
During the internship or the Ms thesis, the students must collect the information necessary for the drafting of a functional analysis report of the company in connection with the course ' Principles of Management - STRP 3162-1 ' taught in master 2 . 
For each internship/Ms Thesis within a company an agreement must be signed and be giving to the academic advisor before it begins.
Learning outcomes of the course :
The goal of the internship is to prepare the student to his/her future career in a private company by discovering a professional environment in relation with chemistry, material sciences, biotechnologies, pharmaceutical industries (...).
The student will demonstrate the ability to establish contacts with the various services that allow the operation of a company and to understand the key points.

Assessment methods and criteria :
The evaluation is based on the report written by the student. The maximum length is fixed at 20 pages. Annexes are authorized.
The structure of the report can draw the instructions provided within the course Principles of Management. The body of work should help answer the following questions as a priority , according to the company profile:



  • Marketing Strategies - How does the company communicate its strengths to the customer? How does the company identify customer requirements and changes in customer requirements?
  • Human Resource Strategies - How does the company recruit, train, develop, motivate, compensate, and place employees so that behavior is directed toward the competitive strategy and works to build competitive advantage?
  • Financial Strategies - How does the company secure financial resources necessary to carry its competitive strategy?
  • Operations Strategies - How does the company design its processes to produce products and/or service that meet customer requirements as specified in the strategy?
  • Information System Strategies - How does the company provide decision makers, at all levels, with information necessary to make decisions consistent with strategy?
  • Technological (R & D) Strategies - How do the develop products consistent with customer requirements as specified in the strategy?
Work placement(s) :
The internships coordinator gathers subjects from companies and propose them to the students, with suggestion of an academic advisor. A student can also make a proposal, but it must be approved by an academic advisor. The internship can start as soon as the student has finalized his/her registration, for example during the summer holidays. Abroad internship can be realized outside holidays periods.
