Learning outcomes of the course :
Introduction to GIS as a tool for spatial data capture, management and analysis in the context of natural hazards management (for the sutdents of the Master in Natural hazards Management) . An important part of the course is dedicated to practical exercises, which allow students to discover a desktop GIS software (QGis). After completing the course the student is expected to be able to : - deal with the basic concepts of geographic information systems (vectror and raster data model, georeferrencing, projection, topology, digitizing, goeprocessing, ...); - handle the main functions of a desktopGIS software (data visualisation, data selection, layer symbolisation, geoprocessing, layout preparation); - find and set up GIS resources (data, tools) on the web.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Basic knowledge of statistics and computer (Windows operating system, Excel spreadsheet)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
The practical exercises are transmitted to the students through MyULG.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Lectures : 12h
Practical Works : 24h
