| General : Tissue Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that applies the principles of engineering and life sciences toward the development of biological substitutes that restore, maintain, or improve tissue function or a whole. This introductory course aims to address the most important and fundamental topics - biological as well as engineering - of contemporary tissue engineering research.

Students chose (after consultation with the lecturer) a contemporary research article related to an aspect of tissue engineering and will deliver a presentation to the lecturer and their fellow students in which they critically discuss this publication. The second part of the evaluation will consist of a wider discussion on a particular aspect of tissue engineering, building on the course material by means of a literature study. The students have to prepare a written report and communicate their finding to their peers by means of an oral presentation. The students will be marked on their report and their presentation in which the following aspects will be of particular importance:
