Course contents :
This course on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is organised in three parts: theoretical lectures, exercises and a group project.
During the theoretical lectures, after a general introduction to EMC problems, the course presents some legal and standardization information, different types of disturbances, coupling modes, tests and measurement methods, design of electrical or electronic systems, different solutions to improve emission or susceptibility of electronic equipments, as well as potential health effects of electromagnetic fields.
Two exercise sessions are organized: one focuses on calculations to evaluate the effects of disturbances in simple cases (coupling between lines, shielding effectiveness) and one is organized in the EMC laboratory (EMC measurement methods, and effects of ferrites, filters and shielding on real appliances).
The project is carried out in groups of variable size, depending on their complexity. These projects can be theoretical or practical depending on the students' interests.
 
Learning outcomes of the course :
By the end of the course the students will have studied the most important aspects of electromagnetic compatibility and will be able to take into account EMC early in their future electronic projects.

Basic knowledge in electromagnetism and electronics.
