Course contents :
The course on contemporary documentaries (cinema, video, television) concentrates exclusively on the analysis of contemporary documentary films (in the 1990s and 2000s), focussing on works which offer an original approach to history and contemporary society. Through these films, students will learn to discover and question the latest theoretical advances in the field of theory and the analysis of documentary cinema. Taking account of the evolution of the contemporary audiovisual landscape, the course also devotes two or three sessions to the specific analysis of documentaries produced and directed exclusively for television.
Learning outcomes of the course :
Based on specific contemporary methodologies of contemporary documentary cinema analysis, the course also focuses on the clear distinction between criticism and analysis, two modes of discourse which are often confused in students' understanding.
