Nicolas Willet
Language(s) of instruction :
French language
Organisation and examination :
Teaching in the first semester, review in January
Units courses prerequisite and corequisite :
Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Course contents :
At the beginning of the academic year, evaluation of the basic chemistry notions seen within the 2 first bachelor blocks. Physical (general, thermodynamics and spectroscopy), analytical and organic chemistry are evaluated.
Learning outcomes of the course :
To realize how important it is to naturally master all the basic knowledge and related competences.
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
The goal of the written examinations (bilan de compétences) is not to force the student to study again all the previous courses, but to test how the basic concepts are naturally mastered, the ones that should never be forgotten.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Written examination of basic scientific competences divided into five chemistry fields.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Two written exams are organized at the beginning of the academic year. A discussion of the first test will be done before the second one takes place. If the student has obtained a grade equal to or higher than 12 for one of the five chemistry topics, he may keep this note. Otherwise, a new chance is given for this topic during the 2nd exam.
Recommended or required readings :
Assessment methods and criteria :
For each chemistry topic, the best note out of two is taken into account. The final grade is calculated as the mean value of the five notes. A grade equal to or higher than 10/20 is successful.
