| Surface and interface science has changed significantly during the last 10-15 years, due to major scientific breakthroughs. For example, the invention of scanning probe microscopy allows us to look at interfaces under wet conditions with unprecedented resolution. Surface science is the basis for nanotechnology, the nanoworld being dominated by surface effects. The course is a general introduction to surface science. It focuses on basic concepts and on understanding basic phenomena. The most common surface modification methods and techniques, as well as characterization tools, are introduced. |
