Observation placements
| The students follow ten chemistry lessons given by secondary school teachers to become aware of the various learning and teaching approaches. | |||||||||||
Teaching placements
| The students are in charge of one internship in which they teach in secondary school classes under the supervision of experienced teachers. In addition to chemistry, they may also teach a limited number of biology lessons. | |||||||||||
Reflexive practical work
| Reflexive practices are based on the analysis, by the students and the members of the chemistry didactics group, of the internship report, in order to define the appropriate feedback. | |||||||||||
Learning outcomes of the course :
Observation placements
| The students are expected to acquire the first elements to define critically their personal approach to teaching. | |||||||||||
Teaching placements
| At the end of this internship, the future teachers are expected to master the basic competences that define a professional teacher. This first level of competences will be strengthened and extended during the internships of course AESS2219-1 (part II). | |||||||||||
Reflexive practical work
| Reflexive practices are one of the many tools which should help the future teachers to:
- develop among their students a citizenship-oriented behaviour; - contribute to the intellectual development of each student; - guide the learning processes; - promote the development of transferable skills; - assess the results of their teaching practice; - work in a team-oriented way; - use efficiently modern communication techniques; - follow the legal regulations involving safety and health in a chemical environment. |
Prerequisite knowledge and skills :
Teaching placements
| Active participation in the theoretical course and in the small-scale teaching exercices
- A good understanding of chemistry (bachelor level) - Participation in the General Didactics Course |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
Observation placements
| The students choose themselves the lessons they are going to follow. They write a short report at the end. | |||||||||||
Teaching placements
| The internship will take place during the first semester 2015-2016 and in January 2016.
The students receive a detailed written information about the organizational aspects. This internship is prepared by small-scale teaching exercises in the framework of the theoretical course (AESS1216-1). |
Reflexive practical work
| Reflexive practices are organized at the end of the internship, when a member of the chemistry didactics laboratory comes to assess a lesson, and when the report has been delivered. | |||||||||||
Recommended or required readings :
Observation placements
| Curricula and chemistry textbooks for the secondary school. Bachelor chemistry textbooks as references. | |||||||||||
Teaching placements
| Curricula and chemistry textbooks for the secondary schools. Bachelor level textbooks as references for the chemistry concepts. | |||||||||||
Assessment methods and criteria :
Observation placements
| If necessary, the report is discussed with the student but it is not assessed. | |||||||||||
Teaching placements
| The quality of the internship is assessed both by the supervisor and by the members of the chemistry didactics group.
A report must be written by the student and will be assessed. The internship report must include a critical analysis of the work performed. |
Reflexive practical work
| Reflexives practices are assessed together with the internship report. The latter must include a critical analysis of the work performed. | |||||||||||
