Prerequisite or corequisite units are presented within each program
Course contents :
The course describes the criteria of choice of the kind of launcher (small, medium or heavy launcher) in function of the type of mission to achieve (low earth orbit, geostationary orbit,...). For that, the basic notions which are the characteristic velocity of the mission and the specific impulse are used. This last one characterizes the efficiency of the retained propulsion type (solid, cryogenic,...) and influences strongly the architecture of the launcher. The possible architectures are described. Starting from the Tsiolkovsky equation, staging technique of the launcher is explained. The solicitations acting upon the launcher and their impact on the constructive aspects of it are also explained. The practical work consists in using the free software "orbiter" in order to vary some parameters of a predefined launcher and by this way achieve different missions.
