Legal framework

A.M. of 06.04.1995 (MB : 24.10.1995) : Ministerial decree setting out the special criteria for approving specialist doctors, internship supervisors and internship departments in neuropaediatrics.

Presentation

This certificate aims to prepare doctors for authorisation as holder of the professional title of `competence¿ in neuro-paediatry.
The aim is to provide neuro-paediatry students with broad training in the various conditions and problems affecting the nervous system of children, enabling them to master the various aspects of diagnosis, complementary and therapeutic explorations, and dealing with adopting a multidisciplinary approach to dealing with patients and their families.


Special conditions of access / students concerned

This course is aimed at doctors who have specialised or who are in their final year of specialisation in paediatrics and who are authorised to practice in Belgium.
Interested individuals should contact the head of the course to discuss their application (selection competition).
Holders of non-EU diplomas should contact the Admissions Department (Certificate of Partial Specialisation Training).


Duration of the training

  • Two years of study: The full time course includes theoretical training (30 credits per year) and clinical internships (30 credits per year) under the direction of internship supervisors who are approved by the Teaching Committee in neurology or in paediatrics (depending on the candidate's prior training).
  • The first of these two years of internship may be carried out within the complementary Masters in neurology or in paediatrics (depending on the candidate's prior training)

The first year of the internship will focus upon:
  • for doctors specialised in neurology - paediatrics, including neonatology, focused on paediatric neurology
  • for doctors specialised in paediatrics - neurology, including neurophysiology, focused on paediatric neurology

The second year of the internship, for the two relevant specialities, will be devoted to paediatric neurology.

Assessment

Students who pass the exam can obtain the certificate.
