This lecture of second master in veterinary medicine follows the teachings of semiology in animal production (VETE0448-1) taught in the first year of master and precedes the clinical training of third master. The theoretical and practical lessons relating to production animals are organized in a dual context and individual herd. This course complements the course of Internal Medicine, Surgery and Theriogenology animal production courses that are specifically targeted to the individual. This course focuses on strategies for the collection and analysis of clinical data, livestock, therapeutic, laboratory in order to increase farm profitability while incorporating the concepts of animal welfare, biosecurity, quality of animal products.
Learning outcomes of the course :
In the field of animal production, productivity is often considered as an alternative measure of health status. Also the fact that the disease is present or not is usually less important than the frequency with which it appears or its impact on the productivity of herds In medicine, the clinician observes the individuals but based his conclusions on observations made on all population. The course's overall goal is to make you aware of (1) the collection strategies of individual information or breeding, (2) analysis for power (3) quantify the extent of the problem, (4) identify the origin and (5) the relationships between the various factors responsible and doing (6) practical recommendations to improve the profitability of the production unit. Like other courses or clinical training, this course will give you the opportunity to increase your disciplinary skills (essential to mobilize as authentic as possible situations knowledge), organizational (ie manage your time, set communicative relationship of a report operating items) (in the context of relations with the breeder or other colleagues), (that is to say the control of oral or written), reflexive (in connection with the analysis and interpretation of information) or personal. More specific objectives of the course are presented in the notes.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
