 | Semiology is the science studying symptoms of disease.
First, information about how to communicate is given. In the course of general semiology, principal symptoms (whatever the species) and the classes of symptoms are defined and illusrated by numerous examples. The methods for collecting these symptoms in the clinical setting are also presented. A part of the teaching will also cover the history and the way of taking the history.
Components of the clinical examination will be detailed. Different types of prognosis, diagnosis and treatment will be reviewed. |

 | History, collection of symptoms and their interpretation will be detailed in the dog and the cat for the cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological and gastrointestinal systems. Numerous examples will illustrate this part of the course (pictures and videos). |
 | | Equine semiology |

 | In this course, the propedeutic methods specific to the equine species will be developed. It will include 4 chapiters:
- General semiology and semiology of the digestive system in the equine species
- Semiology of the respiratory system in the equine species
- Semiology of the cardio-vascular system in the equine species
Semiology of the nervous system in the equine species |
Learning outcomes of the course :
 | | Pet animals semiology |

- to know and understand the methods allowing the collection of symptoms in the case of affection involving the neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal systems in the dog and the cat
- to recognize and interpret symptoms of involvement of these 4 systems
- to be able to collect the necessary information to get a good history in a dog or cat suffering an affection involving one of these 4 systems

 | There are 3 sessions of practical course lasting 1h30 each.
The presence of the students to these sessions is compulsory.
Students who miss a practical session or who arrive too late have to contact Nadine Fis (Nadine.Fis@ulg.ac.be) on the same day. Each practical session that has been missed must be regained by the student at a date that has to be decided with Prof. D. Peeters.
In the case of unjustified absence or delay, the student may be prevented to present the examination of general semiology and semiology of companion animals and horses.
Evaluation of the work of the student at the practical sessions will be a global appreciation of the participation of the student (motivation, behavious, knowledge). This appreciation will allow a modulation of the note obtained during the written examination of the course of semiology. |
 | | Equine semiology |

 | The practical sessions will allow the student to practice the basic propedeutic acts on the horses of the pedagogic herd of the faculty.
Practical informations concerning the practical sessions (content, place, materail, pre requites) are available on the web site of the faculty. |
