Course contents :
| The first eleven chapters are devoted to the structure and function of the major classes of cellular constituents: water, amino acids and proteins, sugars and polysaccharides, nucleotides and nucleic acids, and fatty acids and lipids. In the 12th chapter, biosignaling is considered |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| The objective of these lectures is to explain how the collections of inanimate molecules that constitute living organisms interact to maintain and perpetuate life. The course also put the accent on the basic knowledge that is required to understand the course of Pathological Biochemistry and Clinical Biology. |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| Basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry, and biology. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| Theorical courses are given in an amphitheatre. The practices include seminars, oral presentations, and laboratory experiments. They are compulsory and require a clean lab jacket. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

The reference book is the "Lehninger : Principles of Biochemistry, sixth edition" edited in 2013 by D.L. Nelson and M.M. Cox (macmillan). This book is available at the library of the faculty of veterinary medicine and in the department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. |
