Course contents :  
Prehospital emergency medical systems have grown with the aim of providing adequate first aid in conditions of acute distress.

Such an objective implies the structuration of first aid systems, proper set of laws and legislation, and acquisition of specific skills and knowledge by the intervention responders.

This course aims at providing the participant the understanding of the requirements of these particular conditions of prehospital emergency medicine, and to acquire the knowledge needed to provide efficient care in that setting.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The course objective is to allow the acquisition of knowledge in the field of prehospital emergency medicine and to make the student more familiar with providing care in these particular 'out of hospital' conditions.

To reach this objective, the teaching will be separated in two parts.

The first step will deal with general aspects of the several sequences of an intervention:
- Requisition by the unified calling system
- Response to the call and moving to the scene
- Scene assessment
- Scene securisation and intervention team safety
- Patient initial assessment
- Patient transport

At the second step, the student will be faced with specific patterns such as: trauma patients, usual medical illnesses, environemmental emergencies, difficult cases and specific situations.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Knowledge of Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS and ALS).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
A session will be specifically dedicated to a visit at the 100 regulation central in Liège.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Theory by 2 hours-period courses.

Support: slides, clinical cases, videos.

Site: salle de colloque du Service des Urgences, Niveau -1, CHU Sart Tilman, Liège.
Recommended or required readings :  
A copy of the PPT slides will be distributed at the begining of the course for convenient notes acquisition.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Oral evaluation with:

- Open questions relative to theoretical aspects.
- Clinical case with reasonning about the significative elements of the case and adequate health care planing.
