Course contents :
 |
| Use of in vivo and in vitro tests to evaluate toxicity of chemical substances and drugs |
 |
Learning outcomes of the course :
 |
| To evaluate toxicity of chemical substances and drugs, and before human use, several experimental steps must be done :
- micro-organism tests : speed and cheap, but with a lot of disadvantages (cell wall, none micro-oranite, specificity of ADN repair mechansisms, etc...);
- eukaryotic cells tests : allow to control exactly the concentration used but not the study of influence of metabolic activation/inactivation (important in the study of cancer);
-
in vivo tests : results more sensitive and easier to transpose to human; the choice of a species is the "key" choice ; it is determinated by taking into account metabolic process and detoxification mechanisms.
