Course contents :  
Statistics and epidemiology. Estimation - sampling techniques - Association bewteen a risk factor and a disease (relative rik and odds ratio) - Confounding factors - Survival analysis (Kaplan-Meier survival curves). From simple to advanced statistical methods.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The course is intended to give students a solid statistical background in epidemiology. The importance of the use of appropriate statistical methods in designing public health surveys and epidemiological studies, as well as in analysing the results, will be stressed.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Students should have some basic knowledge in epidemiologya nd in biostatistics. The course will be helpful for a course in advanced epidemiology.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Each theoretical course will be followed by a practical where the student will be able to apply the methods taught.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
The course is usually taught during the second quadrimester.
