Course contents :  
The course is held every odd year (2015-2016, 2017-2018,...).
The course aims to describe in detail the status and history of political actors wich belong to the populist and extreme right family in Europe and in the United States. They fully take part in political life in Europe and in the United States and the study of these actors is therefore an important complement to the study of democracy.
Among other comparative approaches, we will give a special attention to the use of conspiracy theory as a category of political explanation for many extremist parties.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The course offers :
- definition of populism and illustrate the phenomenon by the examples, - definition of the extreme right and illustration of the phenomenon by examples, - comparisons between the phenomena studied and presentation of the limits of the comparative approach in this area
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The student taking the course should be aware of the concept of democracy, its complexity and the misuse in the order of political discourse.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The course will consist of introductory lectures, lectures by guest speakers, and work presented orally by the students.

The evaluation will be made of an oral exam and/or a written work to present during the course and to send to the teacher.

Students wishing to complete an internship in an institution directly involved in the defense and promotion of democratic ideals should contact the teacher of the course.
