Course contents :

| This course will not be organised in 2014-2015.
The series of 10 lectures is conceived as a complement to that organised in the even years, with an accent on students' participation. It is based on a specific chapter of the session Geopolitics of Russian and Eurasia (which is in consequence only briefly mentioned during the uneven years) concerning the growing importance of non-state actors of foreign policy.
The empiric approach is connected with a more theoretical one regarding international relations.
The fist lecture consists in an introduction to the topics. From then on, each lecture consists of an intervention by the professor, developing one or two non-state actors, with an accent on the post-Soviet experience. After that, the students present the results of their personal research into the non-state actor studied during the earlier lecture, that actor being in another country than ex-USSR new states and in a different geopolitical situation. This text includes a short bibliography. It opens the floor for questions by the other students. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| The objective of the lecture is to provide the students with tools to better understand the growing importance of non state actors in international relations and the diversity of the form their action might take according to the political regimes. The personal exercises provide an opportunity to increase their capacities for personal research and the analytical skills of the students. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| The students have to be sensitive to the elements modifying the traditional way States have been dealing with international relations in a post-Cold war globalised world |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :

| The lecture provides for traditional professorial presentations, followed by exposés by the participants and critical interventions by their pairs. |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| The evaluation relays on a three-tier system: an oral exam (10 points) ; an evalutation of the presentation of the essay and its content (7 points); an evaluation of the level of participation during the discussions (3 points). |
