Course contents :  
The course includes the following topics: the different parts of the XRay fluorescence spectrometer (XRay tube, spectrometer, detectors); interactions between XRay and matter; matrix effects and their corrections; sample preparation.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The course aims at providing a basic knowledge for the quantitative analysis of major and trace elements in geological samples.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Reference is being made to chemistry and geochemistry.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
During the practical labs, the students will learn how to prepare geological samples and analyze them with the XRay spectrometer.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
5h of lectures and 15h of preparation in the lab.
Recommended or required readings :  
Reference book: Potts L.W. (1987). Quantitative analysis : theory and practice.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
The oral examination will include questions about theory and labs.
