Course contents :  
Object and methods of psychology; historical sketch; psychological issues presented through five major approaches: biological, psychodynamic, behaviourist, humanistic and cognitive. General overview of psychology.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Introduction to the basic concepts of scientific psychology. Acquisition of general knowledge. It will be question of considering the way some important concepts like personality, emotion, motivation or psychological troubles are viewed from the different psychological perspectives.
The course helps developing critical thinking relatively to psychological issues. Among the studied issues:
  • Introduction to several psychological perspectives. Definition of psychology.
  • General methodological survey.
  • The biological basis of the behavior.
  • Sensation and perception.
  • Learning.
  • Memory.
  • Thinking and intelligence.
  • Motivation and emotion.
  • Stress and health.
  • Mental health.
