Language(s) of instruction :
| French language |
Organisation and examination :
| Teaching in the second semester |
Course contents :
| The course explains the different methods of obtaining a vacuum system (pumps, pressure measurements, ...) and the operation of the main types of particle accelerators. The course is divided into the following chapters:
- Reminder on gas
- The primary vacuum
- The high-vacuum
- Residual gas analysis
- The leak detection
- Linear accelerators
- The circular accelerators and synchrotron |
Learning outcomes of the course :
| Introduce the notions of vacuum and operation of accelerators. |
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :
| |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
| The theory is taught face-to-face. Practical work is organized: obtaining a vacuum system and energy calibration of a van de Graaff accelerator. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :
| The course is given in the second semester according to the schedule distributed at the beginning of the academic year by the Department logisticians. |
Recommended or required readings :
| Lecture slides.
