Course contents :  
Presentation of the main philosophical streams, from the Presocratics to Aristotle.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The course aims at giving the basic knowledge of both the particular concepts and way of thinking in ancient philosophy, and the influence it had on the history of philosophy until now.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
References are made to the main Greek notions, but no knowledge of Ancient Greek is required.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
This course aims at presenting the doctrines of the main classical greek philosophers. For doing so, some of their texts will be read and commented during the class, with the help of the students.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
This course lasts two terms:
  • Monday, 9-10 am, A1/3/22 (from 22.09.2014)
  • Monday, 4-6 pm, A1/3/24 (from 15.09.2014)
Recommended or required readings :  
Students will be provided with a collection of texts, documents, summaries and bibliography.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Oral exam in January.
