| Contents are :
1. Visual perception and its mechanisms.
2. Efficacy of media : what the research says.
3. Choice of media according training needs.
4. Encoding and decoding pictures : analysis and conception of audio-visual messages (leaflets, booklets, posters, videos) and measurement of their effects on learning and attitudes. |

Students will be able to
C1. Analyse existing AV messages (and if necessary improve their quality or conceive their use in order to maximize their intended effects)
C2. Conceive AV messages acording to specified objectives (and define these objectives in an operational format)
C3. Measure the (cognitive, affective and conative) effects fo AV messages on various types of target populations
RESOURCES involved:
R1. Master concepts related to
-learning and audio-visual media and use them to solve real problems.
-evaluation methods (measurement methods, instruments and statistical and grafical processing of data).
R2. Analyse articles in scientific journals and research reports (on the educational impact of audiovisual messages) and judge of relevance of the experimental design and instruments. |

| Lectures
E exercises dealing with (1) the analysis of pictures (illustrated texts, posters) and of videos, (2) the conception of methods to measure their educational impact, (3) the improvement of their educational quality and (4) the analysis of reports on this topic. |
