Course contents :  
This course is focussed on the mecanims that ensure the scaffolding, the control and the adjustment of the learning settings related to French. Six themes are developped :
  • early literacy learning;
  • reading exertise;
  • didactic models of writing;
  • the language as a tool to conceptualize and to learn;
  • the language as a tool to communicate and acculturate one self;
  • the steering and the regulation of the learnings in French.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
At the end of the course, students will be able to analyze the professional skills which determine the effectiveness of the studied learning settings. More specifically, they will be able to :
  • to understand the pupils's difficulties in the area of literacy;
  • to consider learning in a developmental perspective;
  • to develop the ability to bring a new perspective to various learning settings;
  • to design and regulate some learning settings which ensure the development of the targeted skills;
  • to assess/ to comprehend the learning constructed in the different learning settings;

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The methodology combines theoretical presentations , analysis of students' productions and analysis of teaching/learning settings.
The course includes two types of assignement : on the one hand, the reading of a reading folder, and on the other hand, the experiment of a teaching /learning activity and the drafting of a report.

Recommended or required readings :  
A reading folder related to the different themes developped in the course wil be made available for students starting from the first class meeting (October 19th).
Some additionnal texts could also be made available to deepen some of the topics.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Examen écrit. Le rapport relatif à l'expérimentation de l'activité (cf.supra) interviendra pour 20% de la note globale. Son absence ou la non présentation de l'examen entraînera une note de "0" pour le cours.

Organizational remarks :  
The course is organized in 15 face to face modules of 3 hours each . Six modules will be organized on Saturday morning from 9 to 12 ( October 19th , November 16th , November 30th , Décember 14th, March 29th, April 26th) and nine during school holidays (October 28th, October 29th, October 30th , March 5th , March 6th , March 7th , April 7th , April 8th and April 9th).
