Course contents :

| This course contains 3 parts:
1. Calculation of chemical analyses of minerals.
2. X-ray crystallography.
3. Crystal chemistry of rock-forming minerals. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
 |
| The aim of this course is to introduce the students t the two main tools of the Mineralogist: chemical analyses and X-ray powder diffraction. The crystal chemistry of the main mineral groups is also presented in detail. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| The content of the course "Cristallographie et Minéralogie" must be known. |
 |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
 |
| Practicals: interpretation of chemical analyses of minerals, X-ray powder diffraction, macroscopic identification, X-ray single-crystal diffraction techniques. |

Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :

| Face-to-face learning. Practicals are OBLIGATORY. |

Assessment methods and criteria :

| Oral examination for theory. 5 minerals to identify. Written examination on chemical analyses, and on X-ray crystallography problems.
