Course contents :  
This course contains 3 parts:
1. Calculation of chemical analyses of minerals.
2. X-ray crystallography.
3. Crystal chemistry of rock-forming minerals.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
The aim of this course is to introduce the students t the two main tools of the Mineralogist: chemical analyses and X-ray powder diffraction. The crystal chemistry of the main mineral groups is also presented in detail. 
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The content of the course "Cristallographie et Minéralogie" must be known.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Practicals: interpretation of chemical analyses of minerals, X-ray powder diffraction, macroscopic identification, X-ray single-crystal diffraction techniques.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Face-to-face learning. Practicals are OBLIGATORY.
Recommended or required readings :  
Written notes are available via the link below. Please print these notes before the course.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Oral examination for theory. 5 minerals to identify. Written examination on chemical analyses, and on X-ray crystallography problems.
 
No partial dispense.
