The listening comprehension consists in - listening and understanding audio documents
The reading comprehension consists in: - reading and understanding the texts from the newspaper 'Wablieft' or simplified texts from other newspapers
The oral expression consists in: - questions and answers - roleplays - small debates
The writing expression consists in: - summarizing newspaper articles - developing small texts
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Being able to use Dutch as an everyday language as well as the basic structures of the Dutch language. This course aims at developing the four language skills: listening and reading comprehension, and to a lesser degree oral and written expression (during the tutorials)

At the end of this course, the student will be able to communicate about familiar subjects. He will be able to describe his family, his way of life, his work. He will also be able to understand oral and written messages which remain quite simple. He will also be able to write messages with a basic vocabulary.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
This course is aimed at the students who had 4 to 6 hours of Dutch class a week and who reached the level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
- Self-study
- 4 tutorials consisting of:
active participation of the students in the questions and answers, roleplays and mini debates practicals (reading of texts, exercises; writing of small texts)
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
distance-Learning + 5 tutorials: 3 during the 1st semester  2 during the 2nd semester
Recommended or required readings :  
We work with the following methods: - website LANG2008-1 http://newlola.hec.ulg.ac.be/ - online newspaper "Wablieft" (http://www.wablieft.be/krant/wablieft-krant)
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Continuous evaluation (20%):


  • for the oral part (15%)
  • for the writing of small texts (5%)
Exams:


  • written exam in January (50%): vocabulary and grammar exercises based on the 5 first files (cfr LANG2008-1); listening and reading comprehension, writing expression based on the files mentioned above.
  • written exam in June (30%): vocabulary and grammar exercises based on the 3 last files (cfr LANG2008-1); , listening and reading comprehension, writing expression based on the files mentioned above.

NB: A student who does not present one of the tests, obtains 0/20 as a global mark.
