Course contents :  
-        Business vocabulary (advanced level).
-        No systematic grammatical revision.
-        Listening comprehensions.
-        Expressing oneself, giving one's opinion, communicating.
-        Project linked to innovation and marketing including trip to a non French-speaking place.
-        Project linked to marketing and advertising.
-        Writing of 3 project reports.
-        Oral presentations.
-        Commercial letters, CVs, interviews, TOEFL...
-        Finance, accounting and business plan.
-        Imposed reading of book extracts and full book.
-        Press files.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
- Aim: to reach the C1 European level of language proficiency.
- In practice: to be able to understand and to express oneself fluently using formal language and a high register on business and/or economic topics, to be able to write a report using academic language and to be able to display autonomy in most situations.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
-        B2 European level.
-        Intermediate English MUST be acquired at this level since there will be no grammatical revisions. Everyday language as well as some intermediate business English vocabulary and structures must be acquired too. It is best to know French as a great deal of the vocabulary to be studied at home is given in 'English-French' lists.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
-        One unit from the Upper Intermediate Market Leader (3rd edition).
-        Reading of text from the Market Leader and from other sources (newspapers and books).
-        Learning of text vocabulary as well as derived vocabulary.
-        Listening comprehensions from the Market Leader and from the BBC World Service + Dragons' Den + other materials.
-        Group presentations in class of several projects and topics.
-        Rephrasing and academic writing (summary and essay).
-        Marked reports on the projects.
-        Speaking (discussions on different topics, case studies etc.)
-        Presentations: Anglo-Saxon civilization.
-        Autonomous group activities: creation or improvement of a product or service, introduction to SWOT analysis and to business plan, introduction to advertising and marketing, presentation of the projects and (filmed) collection of feedback and data in a non-French-speaking place (Britain, Holland...) Note that the trip will not be financed by the school but there is no obligation to go far.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
-        In class and at home (given the high credit number (7), homework is required.) Presence in class is highly desirable in order to practice oral language as much as possible.
Recommended or required readings :  
-        Some of the notes will be provided on the school platform Lol@ (course code: LANG1997-1). However, it is desirable to come to class in order to take some more notes especially regarding the vocabulary. The book extracts and the book to read will be announced in class. 
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Important notice: the final mark comprises more than just the June exam:
-        Written language: 50%
  • First project: report 1 (3%) - report 2 (3%) - personal report (1%)
  • Second project: report (5%) - personal report (1%)
  • Tests during the year: (2%)
  • Written exams (January 17.5% - June 17.5%)
-        Oral language: 50 %
  • Pitch (2.5%)
  • Project presentation (7.5%)
  • Advertising campaign presentation (7.5%)
  • Anglo-saxon civilization (7.5%)
  • Oral exam in June (25%)
