Course contents :  
This year, the seminar theme will be: Renaissance Rome: urban mise-en-scene. We will define the techniques implemented by the authorities (Holy See, Spain, Empire, nobility...) within the roman urban space to claim their power. We will prove to understand the mechanisms of this system built on prestige and pomp thanks to an accurate analysis of town-planning and ceremonial undertaking.

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
This seminar is accessible to the students Master (in-depth approach) in History (Option "Beginnings of Modernity ») and in History of Art and Archeology (Option "Gothic Middle Ages and Renaissance" / organization without options). It takes place in a coherent specialized training program linked with research activities of the Centre "Transitions. Centre of History of Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Period" (see www.transitions.ulg.ac.be).

No specific prerequisites are required. However, it is better to have a sufficient knowledge of modern history.

The main iconographical and textual documents used during the lesson will be available on the teaching platform eCampus.

A multilingual bibliography will be available. Each student will be able to present some of these references.
