Course contents :  
Overview of artistic productions of the 15th and 16th centuries in Western Europe: important examples, chronological relationships, contextualization. Introduction to the analysis of monuments and works, and to their interpretation from a historical perspective.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To discover the evidence of art in Western Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries. Basic introduction to analytical and interpretative methods of history of art. Learning of specific terminology.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
None, other than carrying out general studies in history of art and archaeology.

Students must also attend a lecture by Emmanuel Lurin (Paris-Sorbonne), on 10th December 2013 : "Etienne Dupérac et les Antiquités romaines : itinéraire d'un artiste français à Rome au XVIe siècle".
