Course contents :

| « Observer et comparer. Notions fondamentales d'iconographie ». Ce cours de deuxième année est une initiation à l'analyse iconographique de l'oeuvre d'art - plus spécifiquement de l'iconographie occidentale (mythologie gréco-romaine, tradition biblique et variations périphériques, récits historiques). Ce cours se veut avant tout méthodologique. Outre une présentation des différents outils utiles à l'analyse iconographique, c'est en premier lieu l'exercice du regard face à l'image qui sera pratiqué : "Se fier à nos yeux" comme le suggéraient naguère Jacob Burkhart. Ainsi, suivant le modèle des "Principes fondamentaux de l'Histoire de l'art" d'Heinrich Wöllflin, différents points de vue (l'espace, la matière, la composition, le temps, la couleur, la lumière) seront successivement appliqués sur une sélection d'images. Les étudiants bénéficieront ainsi d'une série de pistes de recherche objectives qu'il leur sera aisé de mettre à l'épreuve sur une grande partie du répertoire iconographique occidental. |

Learning outcomes of the course :

| Ce cours de BAC 2 (HAAR0026-1) - régime transitoire -a pour ambition d'amener l'étudiant à maîtriser les principes et la pratique de l'analyse iconographique d'une représentation figurée. En d'autres termes, il s'agit de familiariser l'étudiant avec les principaux thèmes de l'art antique et de l'art chrétien. Les objectifs d'apprentissage majeurs peuvent se résumer à trois points précis : prises de notes synthétiques en cours - travail de synthèse et de vérification en bibliothèque - maîtrise des encyclopédies et des ouvrages fondamentaux. |

| For BAC students, regular presence in class is required, as well as analytical study and verification work in the library, which is required in order to cover all the material presented. These hours of personal study throughout the year should be equivalent (or greater than) the number of hours in class. It is also advised the the foundations are laid on the basis of bibliographical and iconographical information. |
