Course contents :
|
| Process of erosion, transport, sedimentation, burial and deformation. Formation and nature of magmatic and metamorphic rocks. Methods of datation of rocks. Geological evolution of Belgium in connection with the plates tectonics and the general evolution of the biosphere. |

Learning outcomes of the course :
|
| Definition of the domains of the Earth sciences. Description of the main geological phenomena. Basic knowledge allowing to determine the main types of rocks and to understand their origine, to read and to understand the geological maps. |

Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :

| Basic knowledge in chemistry, physics and biology. |

Planned learning activities and teaching methods :
|
| Practical works in classroom are devoted to the determination of main minerals and rocks, and to the reading and interpretation of the geological maps.
Practical works on the field are devoted to illustrate the course and the practical works in classroom, and to allow the student to recognize in concrete terms rocks and geological phenomena. |
