Course contents :  
The course is devoted to the questions of development and spatial planning. It includes two sections. The first is devoted to the theme of territorial development with an analysis on the factors of regional competitiveness. The second is devoted to spatial planning policies. It develops their main objectives and disposals. The Belgian case, with a focus on the Walloon situation, is particularly developed.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
Provide to the students theoretical and practical knowledges about spatial planning and territorial development policies. Those knowledges have two main purposes:
- to allow students to reframe issues and political debates in the fields of territorial development and spatial planning;
- to prepare students to other courses devoted to spatial planning;
- to prepare students to intervene in the fields of spatial planning.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
1. Geography concepts and methods as taught in Bac 1, 2 and 3. 2. An open attitude towards social and economic problems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
Seminars with professionals active in the field of spatial planning A field visit devoted to urban planning policies in Maastricht
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
- 15 hours of theoretical lectures - 15 hours of workshops and practical exercises - 1 day of fieldworks

Slide presentations and various illustrations available on MyULg
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Oral exam with questions related to the theoretical lectures, the seminars and the field visit
