Course contents :  
This courses starts with an introduction to land surveying which present in a broad but superficiel way all the surveying operations (levelling, traversing, survey, setting out) and the associated instruments (levels, theodolite, total station).Then, laserscanning techniques and operational GNSS are presented during specific seminars
Learning outcomes of the course :  
- to get a basic knowledge of surveying operations and practical methods - to get a basic knowledge of the instruments - to be able to organise a small surveying work - to be able to exchange with geomaticians
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
The course assumes good knowledge of basic mathematics: geometry, trigonometry, as well as of some elements of general physics: optical and electronic mechanics.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
In addition to the theoretical course, 4 practical work sessions are organised (problem-based). These will include field work such as a closed levelling, a traverse and a tacheometric site survey.

Course notes are available on eCampus. Numerous recent reference books (mostly in English) are available at the library of earth sciences.
Assessment methods and criteria :  
Each field work session will be the subject of a written report which is graded. The arithmetical average of these reports will account for a quarter of the points in the final assessment. The written examination is organsied for the remaining 3/4 of the points. Eventually, an oral examination is organised
