Course contents :  
Workshops are based on a territorial diagnostic that will be realized during a week fieldworks abroad. They confront the student with fieldworks methodological problems and with the relativity of the idea of development. Main tools to assess the regional development and to foresight it are presented.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
1. Confrontation with the difficulties of research abroad 2. Command of research methods of economic and social geography 3. Use of the geographical knowledge to realise a territorial diagnostic from a sustainable development viewpoint. 4. Use of tools to help the diagnostic 5. Reflexivity concerning regional knowledge and regional development.
Prerequisites and co-requisites/ Recommended optional programme components :  
Landscape analysis, Spatial analysis, cartography, rural and urban geography, cultural geography, geomorphology, and regional planning.
Good physical condition, English
Planned learning activities and teaching methods :  
The lectures, the exercises are integrated to the fieldworks. They are planned during one week of end April. This fieldwork tends to be as close as possible of real condition of diagnostic. Students work in collaboration to the diagnostic.
Mode of delivery (face-to-face ; distance-learning) :  
Lectures will be given in April to prepare the fieldworks and during the fieldworks.
