Course contents :  
The study of the territories where are practised the eastern languages constitutes the object of this course.
There will be mainly study the Arab countries from Morocco to Saudi Arabia but also Turkey and India.
The characteristics of the landscape will be considered (climate, geology, geomorphology, vegetation and anthropic activities).
The accent will be also laid on the natural hazards (seism, coastal erosion, tsunami, floods, desertification,...).
The problem of the water will be particularly examined in more detail. The settlement distribution, the migratory flows and the economic activities will be also analyzed.
Practical works will allow to better understand the field reality from documents like the satellite images and aerial photographies.
Learning outcomes of the course :  
To give to the students in Eastern Languages and Literatures the elements for better understanding the backgrounds where these languages are (or were) practised.
